Am back from Sin City. What a trip! It was the perfect getaway although I am happy to be back home again. The desert has left me all dried up…in many ways. Ha ha ha. We had heaps of fun enjoying great food, great drinks, great company, and great entertainment. We did not blow our whole budget gambling on day one, either! Ha ha ha.
The first few nights we stayed at Caesar’s Palace. The room was nice in a classic sense though I must say it is not very exciting or trendy. The rest of the hotel I enjoyed despite the massive size. It is an oldie but still a goody! The pool area was very nice with a bit of a party scene but generally it is a bit of an older and mixed crowd at this hotel. Good service as well.
The last few nights we switched over to the Cosmopolitan-which has much hipper and cooler rooms with balconies. A bit less great service but still okay. The only problem is that the clientele in the main areas like the casino are…well, lets just say this hotel is much more of a party hotel and attracts that party crowd. Some of which are THE MOST obnoxious people in the world…. and I mean THE WORLD! Party hotels are fine but also come with a side order of other problems-but it is Vegas so anything goes!
We also spent quite a bit of time at the Bellagio since our friends were staying there and at Palazzo. Palazzo is a nice quiet hotel. I like that. The Bellagio pool is a great calm pool since it is only for guests and there is no party scene… not even music. Sometimes you just want to escape the music! I had to say that sometimes I wanted to forget it all and just enjoy the balcony at the Cosmo with a good book during the afternoon or my husband and I would curl up on the balcony lounge chairs with a bottle of champagne we brought to the room and enjoy the night view before we went out for the evening. I also love the soap at the Cosmo for some reason. I made sure to pack it for home.
Our meals out were also great. As I mentioned earlier, we were interested in the Wicked Spoon buffet and made sure to go. I have never been a fan of buffets and can still say I am not. I would rather have the one thing I want than 100 things I do not mind having. Also, I am not big on binge eating but felt I had to. Dessert also seems to be a fail at most buffets. I only enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries at this one.
My husband and I tracked down the burrito place we enjoyed last time as well and it is still good! Cannot remember the name, unfortunately. We also had nice meals at Mario Batali’s Otto, a Thai place called Sea (yum!), the Cheesecake Factory at the Forum Shops (a cheap eat!), and Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Resort which had great balcony seating on one of the cooler nights. Our group bought a cake from the Cake Boss one night as well to share. A bit too rich for me since chocolate was the group choice that night but still good. The worst part is all the long line ups all over Las Vegas…but what can you do?
We also gambled a bit each night but never seemed to win…the first time I went to Vegas it seemed so easy! In fact, no one in our group won a cent (or if they did they returned it the next day-ha ha ha).
We had some free tickets to see Chelsea Handler live but now I am 100% sure I am not the biggest fan. Celine Dion-who my husband loves- was only playing twice while we were there and it was too late to buy tickets for the second show (we missed the first one). Finally, we planned to see Michael Jackson One by Cirque du Soleil but could not get tickets for that either. The other shows my sister had already seen or we were not interested in.
We went out to a bar a couple nights as well and that was nice although not my scene in general. We did some shopping and met all kinds of characters from all over the globe-from Russians comparing LV to Macau, to rich old men with an entourage of young women, a gaggle of really obnoxious drunk British girls trying to meet men, to wealthy Asians making huge bets in the high limits rooms and winning big.
It was a great trip and a nice getaway-the best part is bonding with your group of friends-but I think I have seen enough of Vegas for the next few years. It is fun once in a while but not my destination of choice. All the fake and false is not what I enjoy on the regular-but for those of you who have not gone, you gotta check it out at least once. It is over the top!
