Life has been busy the last while and lots of updates to make but today I only have the energy to give my book update. In the last while, I have read the following fabulous books (and some not so fabulous!)
The Witch’s Trinity by Erika Mailman
This book takes place in Germany at a time where being accused of witchcraft often meant certain death. The main character is a grandmother figure who is ultimately accused. I didn’t want to put the book down until I found out what happened to her. Reading from the perspective of an elderly woman was also new and interesting.
I found this book a bit hard to get into but it became increasingly better. It takes place in a Canadian prairie province and has a few themes. I grew to enjoy some of the characters by the end.
Etta by Gerald Kolpan
This book was fun and is about a female outlaw in the Wild West. Based on some true facts but embellished by fun fiction, it kept my attention the entire time.
Literacy and Longing in LA by Jennifer Kaufman and Karen Mack
This book is light and easy and would appeal to women. Although it is not my usual type of book, I still enjoyed it. It is nice to read about another woman who is a mess in her 30’s and trying to clean it all up.
The Postmistress by Sarah Blake
I truly enjoyed this book. Taking place during WW2 it covers several plots that ultimately emerge. I enjoyed especially the portions about the female war correspondent. Her journey further into Europe and interaction with fleeing refugees was also powerful. A glimpse into small town America on the Atlantic coast made me want to visit and stay a month.
By the way, this brings my book count to 8 I believe.
